I learned from one of the the colleagues of Jack Schwartz who read some of my recent posts on his untimely passing that she didn’t like a link that appeared next to my post.
On investigation I learned the link appeared in a section titled “Possibly related posts: (automatically generated).” Since I had recently resumed blogging after a long sabbatical I included that this was a new feature that had been added to WordPress during the lull, and it took a quick search to confirm this guess: Possibly an Announcement (published 2008/08/04).
That post gave instructions on how to disable this feature and I have done so, even though the announcement indicates that doing so will cause my post to not be so recommended from posts by others. I feel this is a small price to pay to avoid my readers being given links they find offensive.
Immediately after I published this post, I submitted a note to the Support Section at WordPress.com, in which, for the box marked “I expected,” I wrote:
I should be sole arbiter of the content posted on my blog.
I do not accept adds.
I control which comments are included.
The editor’s pen should be in my hands, not yours.
