This is not a post about Open Office or Office Open XML, but about my own “open office” for the past few months, my back porch. It’s an open office in that I can look up from laptop and see through the porch screen to the open woods.
Here are some pictures:
That’s one of the nice things about working about IBM, the nicest part of course being all the fine people you get to work with.
IBM doesn’t really care where you do the work as long as it gets done. My day consists of reading and responding to e-mail, phone calls and conference calls, viewing the Internet, writing, and so on.
And many times during the day a little window pops open on my screen, or I cause a window on someone else’s machine to pop up, so we engage in an instant messaging session using Notes SameTime (ST). Often I use ST just to set up a short call.
Though my office is in Somers NY, about fifteen miles north from my house, most of the people I need to deal with are at other IBM locations: Austin TX,, Poughkeepsie NY, Raleigh NC, Rochester MN, and Beaverton OR for example. And from time to time I have a call with someone in Europe, Israel, India, China, or Australia.
So it really doesn’t matter where I do the work, and my “open office” at home is much nicer than my window-less space in Somers, so I’ve worked from home for almost a year now.
I hope you enjoy the view. I know I do.
