Cleverly-disguised announcement of new Microsoft Digital Rights Management Team

I suspect the following article was submitted by Microsoft for inclusion in the Business ,but the New York Times exercised editorial discretion and ran the release in the Arts Section on Friday, November 2, 2007.

Is this really Steve Ballmer’s new job?

The editors of the New York Times are very good at their job.

A.J. Liebling , the staff writer for the New Yorker and the author of the occasional column “The Wayward Press” that is the namesake of this blog, once worked for the New York Times.

Part of his job was to report the results of basketball games in Brooklyn. An alert editor soon noticed that every basketball game played in Brooklyn was refereed by the same man, “A. Ignoto.” When the editor confronted A.J., Liebling confessed that “Ignoto” was the Italian for “unknown.”

Liebling was fired on the spot.
